SCHEDULE
This is a full time position, 40 hours per week. Schedule is typically Monday through Friday 8am - 5pm, but there will be times that require working some non-traditional hours to accommodate consumers.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Hourly Rate: $16.05 - $21.88 depending on experience
JOB SUMMARY
General Description: The Parent Support Partner is the parent or primary caregiver of a child with emotional, behavioral and/or mental health challenges who serves as an example and mentor to other parents and is included in the service planning, implementing, and transition process, as delineated in the Person-Centered Plan. Assists in engaging family members and provides peer-to-peer support, education and training to families who are receiving services.
Responsibilities and Duties: The Parent Support Partner learns the family's story, culture, strengths and concerns. Coaches the families to navigate the system by building families' skills, providing information and teaching families how to access and obtain community resources. Utilizes personal experience and knowledge and expands opportunities for family choice and voice in matters affecting families and their children. Builds partnerships with parents and professionals, and promotes an open, respectful attitude. Provides skilled interventions as part of the treatment plan. Meets with families in their home, community, or other setting to work on identified goals. Assists families with and provides ongoing support in connecting families to resources in the community, to partner with service providers, and to increase their confidence in parenting so that all family members can remain in the community. Empowers families to move toward independence through skill-building interventions. Provides parents and caregivers with needed information about CMH, the Parent Support Partner role and other related services. Provides a consistent source of non-judgmental support, encouragement and hope. Supports families in identifying and learning techniques and strategies for use by parents and caregivers. Supports the child and family team to ensure and promote the family's voice and choice. Completes and maintains accurate, timely, and required documentation. Attends staff meetings, supervision and training as scheduled. Participates in consultation and treatment plan coordination with child and family team member(s) (e.g. wraparound coordinator, home-based therapist, case manager, etc.) on a regular basis.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
General Education: High School Graduate
Other Preparation: Individuals providing Parent Support Partner services must be 18 years of age or over and must be a parent or primary day-to-day caregiver who has or has had a child with emotional, behavioral and/or mental health challenges. Individuals providing these services should have experience navigating at least one agency serving children, preferably a public mental health agency.
Job-Related Experience: Sufficient experience to perform the position at a satisfactory level.
Licenses, etc.: Must meet MDCH specialized training and certification requirements within one year of hire. Valid driver's license while operating vehicle on agency business.
