SCHEDULE

This is a full-time hybrid position, scheduled for 40 hours per week. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

JOB SUMMARY
General Description: Responsible for the evaluation of consumers' physical status (to include abilities
and disabilities), vocational and daily living skills and for the assessment of needs to assist in the person centered
planning process.

Responsibilities and Duties: Plans, organizes, and conducts occupational therapy treatments by physical and mechanical methods in a variety of settings to facilitate habilitation of individuals with mental or physical disabilities. Conducts appropriate evaluations and assessments in areas of occupational therapy as required by various standards. Designs programs for individual consumers and/or for clinical approval. Maintains individual records of treatment and progress and prepares reports and other agency paperwork. Provides consultation to select activities consistent with the needs and capabilities of each consumer and
other therapeutic activities. Selects constructive activities suited to individuals' physical capacity, intelligence level, and interest to support consumer independence, empowerment and community inclusion. Teaches consumers skills and techniques required for participation in activities and evaluates their progress. Provides purposeful and goal-oriented activities that teach and facilitate skills in assertiveness, cognition, independent living including community resources, home management, time management, management of medication, safety in the home and community, self-awareness, interpersonal/social skills, stress
management, activities of daily living, role development, self-sufficiency and interdependency; and wellness. Conducts training programs and participates in training workshops for residential staff in occupational therapy techniques and objectives. Educates staff/family on therapy programs and home exercise programs. Designs, makes and fits special equipment and adaptive devices, such as splints and braces, following the individual plan of service and suggests other adaptations of consumer's work, school

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
General Education
College: Bachelor's degree Major: Occupational Therapy
Other: Continuing education as necessary

Job-Related Experience: One year of experience preferred.

Licenses, etc.: National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy Registration, State of Michigan licensure. Valid driver's license required. Adult CPR and membership in American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) preferred.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Knowledge: Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of occupational therapy. Considerable knowledge of activities is used for therapeutic treatment of individuals with an intellectual/developmental or physical disability.

Skills: Familiarity with adaptive equipment to promote consumer independence. Considerable skill in the application of electronic and/or mechanical equipment and machines used to enable or enhance consumers' capabilities. Skill in use of telephone, writing, use of electronic health record, automobile, providing in-services, and establishing rapport with individuals with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities.

Abilities: Ability to organize and coordinate the occupational activities of a specific work area; to allocate work to other support staff in a specific work area; to determine work priorities; and to get along well with and to gain the cooperation of consumers. Ability to carry out directions; to devise work projects from available materials, instruct others at various cognitive levels, and evaluate their progress. Ability to accept and work with consumers of varying abilities and disabilities. Ability to accurately assess consumer functional abilities, to plan and organize numerous activities, to function effectively as a member of a team and be flexible. Ability to communicate with others, both verbally and in writing. Ability to maintain favorable public relations and rapport with consumers and staff. Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to machines and equipment.

Physical Demands: Work requires occasional pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, reaching and modeling body movements for consumers. Some travel is required.

Work Environment: Work is performed in a typical office setting, workshops, and residential
settings.
